Special Issue: Evaluator Competencies
Vol. 19 No. 46 (2023)This volume includes 12 papers that raise uncomfortable questions that we hope will sharpen our thinking about evaluator competencies. The papers discuss the authors’ reflections on competency-related issues as they navigated the COVID-19 pandemic. Very broadly, the authors chose topics related to the discontinuities caused by the pandemic and expressed growing awareness of the need to rethink how interventions address problems of inequities and sustainability. While the topics vary, each of the papers reflects on the competencies that evaluators need to address such challenges and be relevant in the future.

Vol. 19 No. 45 (2023)
With this first regular JMDE issue of 2023, we are remembering our past and looking to our future. In the Articles section, we bring you six engaging pieces: a research study focused on the relationship between employee motivation and evaluation capacity building; a methods piece examining journey mapping in youth programs; and four different reviews focused on online evaluation capacity building practice, evaluating equity-focused community coalitions, excessive evaluation anxiety, and the transnational influence of Jennifer Greene’s ideas. In the Ideas to Consider section, we offer a piece on artificial intelligence and another on complexity-based evaluation of transformation.
We also present a special In Memoriam section remembering Dr. Chris Coryn, who was JMDE’s executive editor and director of the Interdisciplinary PhD in Evaluation (IDPE) program at Western Michigan University. Twenty of Dr. Coryn’s colleagues, former students, and friends have contributed to memorializing his life and contributions to evaluation.
Also included is a corrections notice for two previously published articles that required corrections.
